HandicapMaster Local Handicap System
About Local Handicapping
This edition of HandicapMaster is designed for organisations that are not affiliated to a National Golf Union or Federation, and therefore are not eligible to use the World Handicap System for their organisation.
It provides a facility for the organisation to operate their own handicapping system.
Basis of Handicapping
There are three possible choices to the calculation of a player's Handicap. These are
- Optionally, the average of their best scores from their recent scores,
- Optionally, adjust handicaps on an incremental basis,
- Optionally, where a player finishes in a competition.
Note: The first two options cannot be used together. The third option may be combined with either of the first two options or selected on its own.
You may change these parameters by running the 'Configure Handicapping Rules Wizard'.
You may also:
- Manually adjust a player's handicap,
- Freeze a player's handicap at a chosen value or,
- Set the player's handicap so that it cannot increase, only come down!
Player's handicaps are calculated to one decimal place. For scoring, this handicap is rounded to the nearest whole number (and, optionally, can be adjusted by a course difficulty factor). Any competition handicap allowance is then applied to calculate the Strokes Received by the player.
Scoring
Players scores, as they are fed into the calculation, are based upon the number of strokes the player has taken for the round. This total is adjusted to take account of the following situations:
- The player exceeds their maximum hole score,
- A hole is not played, or
- A hole is started but the player does not hole out.
Results
You may elect to publish member's Handicaps, competition results and more through the
Master Scoreboard web site service.
Two editions; 'Local-Silver' and 'Local-Gold'
We have two versions of the Local Handicapping software, '
Local-Silver' and '
Local-Gold'. They both have the full range of handicapping options. Local-Gold adds some additional competition management features and also adds the option for players to book into future competitions (such as online through the Master Scoreboard service).
For our existing 'Society' edition users
For existing customers of HandicapMaster version 9 or earlier, the new software retains historic records of your past competition results from your previous 'Society' edition version. The change of handicapping means members might have Handicaps at new values after an update.
Note for organisations affiliated to their National Union/Federation
Note: Affiliated organisations offering official handicaps will need to operate software that meets their regional golfing authority requirements.
HandicapMaster may be able to offer you such
WHS® software depending on your location and licensing conditions, but this will not be the 'local handicap' editions described here. Please contact us if you require further advice.
R&A Rules Limited and the United States Golf Association are acknowledged as the owners of the World Handicap System.
